You do not have to be fearless. Doing it afraid is just as brave. – Morgan Harper Nichols
Last year at this time, I was saying goodbye to my in-house team and focusing on reclaiming my health.
This week, I’m building a client workshop, working with a new partner, and devouring loads of academic research.
I also recently judged my first high-school debate tournament, hit a PR at the gym, and planted my first round of vegetable seeds.
All this has me thinking about change, the things we value, and the roles well-being, grit, and resilience play in our growth.
So, I’m sharing this to remind anyone who’s struggling with resilience today that change can be deeply:
- frustrating and disappointing
- disorienting and destabilizing
- scary and anxiety-inducing
AND it can also:
- be healthy
- open unexpected doors and create space for new experiences and connections
- put you on paths you never imagined, unlocking work you were born to do
Now, if you know me, you know that toxic positivity isn’t my jam. In fact, for all my cheerleading and championing, I tend to land on the practical (and slightly skeptical) side of the fence. (The Jersey girl or the behavioral scientist in me… I’m not sure which…)
My last twelve months have been no picnic.
But I’ve been determined and gritty…
At the gym.
At my desk.
In the PT office.
Not always at 110%. Sometimes at 60%. Or even 20% on my hardest days. (My poor trainer can attest to this!)
But I’ve shown up. I made progress. And progress adds up.
💡Why this matters: We never know what the next chapter will bring. So, if you’re struggling, unsure of your next step, or navigating significant change, and feel nervous, anxious, or disappointed… I see you.
I’m also here to remind you to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
And while you’re at it, take time to reflect on your milestones and notice moments that bring you joy, or a sense of accomplishment, ease, or connection.
Because resilience doesn’t require fearlessness… but it does it does require showing up.
