After years of prepping leaders for podcast interviews, I recently found myself on the other side of the mic – and WOW did it feel different!
Huge thanks to Celeste DiDona, host of Midlife Audacity. She’s been following my resilience and burnout research series, and invited me to share some of my recent research insights.
We covered *SO MUCH* during our hour-long chat, but here are some highlights:
- Burnout is on the rise; The pace of change, new tech, content and media overload and social pressure/expectations for instant engagement and response are key contributors.
- Resilience skills can be physical/biological (central nervous system regulation); behavioral (scheduling, planning) or psychological (mindset changes/giving yourself permission).
- Chronic stress impacts both the brain and the body.
- Burnout isn’t a character flaw or individual issue; Systems and environments also play a role.
- Resilience without recovery is endurance; Endurance without recovery leads to depletion.
- Values alignment matters; It’s easier to summon resilience if you’re crystal clear what you stand for/what’s important to you.
- Real self-care goes beyond quick fixes, escapes, or distractions.
If you’re headed out for a long (ish?) walk, commute, or are logging some time on the treadmill, give it a listen and let me know what you think!
